"And raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus." — Ephesians 2:6
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the struggles of life? The weight of worries, the pressure of responsibilities, and the constant challenges we face can make us feel as though we are constantly fighting a losing battle. But the truth of the New Covenant is that we are not meant to live defeated or under the circumstances. We are seated with Christ in heavenly places, far above all of the challenges that try to hold us back.
Our Position in Christ
In Ephesians 2:6, Paul reminds us that, in Christ, we have been raised up and seated with Him in heavenly places. This is not a future promise—it is a present reality. Right now, spiritually, we are seated with Christ in the place of authority and victory. This means that we are not slaves to our circumstances; we are above them.
When you understand that you are seated with Christ, you recognize that your position is one of authority and rest. You are no longer trying to fight from a place of defeat—you are fighting from a place of victory. The enemy may try to lie to you and tell you that you are powerless, but the truth is, you are seated in the highest place with Jesus, far above all principalities, powers, and forces of darkness (Ephesians 1:21-23).
Living from Victory, Not for It
The key to living from our seated position in Christ is to understand that we do not need to earn victory. The victory has already been won. Jesus triumphed over sin, death, and the grave, and now He invites us to live in that victory.
When we live from our position in Christ, we stop fighting for a victory that has already been secured. Instead of striving to overcome, we stand firm in the victory that Jesus has already accomplished. Our battles are fought with the knowledge that we are seated with Him in heavenly places. This gives us boldness and confidence in every situation we face.
Authority in Christ
Being seated with Christ means we also share in His authority. Jesus has been given all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18), and because we are in Him, we have been given that same authority. This means that we have the power to overcome the enemy, to speak life into situations, and to walk in the authority of the kingdom of God.
When you face challenges, remember that you are seated in Christ’s authority. You don’t have to be intimidated by the enemy or the obstacles in your life. You are seated above them, in the place of authority. The enemy can try to intimidate you, but he is under your feet.
Resting in Your Position
To live from your seated position is to live in rest. Too often, we strive and struggle as though we need to work for victory, but in Christ, the victory is already secured. Your position with Christ allows you to rest, knowing that every battle has already been won on your behalf. This rest is not a passive surrender, but an active trust in the finished work of Jesus.
As you go about your day, remind yourself that you are seated with Christ, and that this position brings you peace, authority, and rest. You no longer need to worry or fear—you can walk in the power and authority that comes from being in Christ.
Today’s Reflection
Do you live your life with the awareness that you are seated with Christ in heavenly places? How can you start to walk in the authority and victory that you already have in Him? Spend some time today reflecting on your position in Christ and how it changes the way you live.
“Father, thank You for raising me up and seating me with Christ in heavenly places. Help me to live from the place of victory that You have already secured. Teach me to walk in the authority and peace that comes from being seated with Jesus. I surrender my worries and fears to You, knowing that I am in a place of rest and victory. Amen.”
